  • Lightweight Front Forks??

    Morning,
I was researching this Lightweight Front Forks ("Rubber Spring" type?) before trying to sell them. I wondered if anyone might have more insight with this fork?
    Thanks,
    William

    1) The fork legs do not have the two cutouts in each side like shown in the parts manual for #45501-47 and in various photos seen on the web. Could this have been a prototype or later production change to make them more solid?

    2) Appears the rubber band spring was substituted with a steel spring (nicely done though). Could this have a late production change as well? I could find no info in the parts manuals that I have.

Those are not H-D. Many manufacturers used pressed steel forks including the original DKW models the H-D lightweight was cloned from. Along with various British manufacturers.

FYI - After doing additional web crawling and then reading the forum post on the James ML Military M/C (http://www.antiquemotorcycle.org/bbo...us-James-maybe
), I stumbled across this web link: http://www.roncobb.com/JamesML.html. From the web links photos – the bolt hole patterns (fork brace, headlamp mount, fender braces, etc.) and brake cable mount (right leg) appear to match.
