tires for sport model

What is the correct tire pressure for my sport model.
I have no experience with these wheels.
Tire size is 26 x 3.
The supplier of my tire says 50 psi but the riders handbook says 40 psi.

I have Coker buttons on mine and run 50 PSI (minimum). In my opinion anything less might be dangerous, I've had bad thoughts of a tire coming off the rim going around a sweeping turn in third gear. The tires are about worn out and I think I'll buy some Universals (much more rubber on them) to replace them with, the buttons just don't last long.
