  • Vintage Oil Cups Needed for Sport Twin

    Hey Guys

New to the forums here today. My name is Denis McCarthy. I'm a restoration specialist for The Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum in Birmingham, Alabama. I hope this is the correct place to post this question, if not please give me a location recommendation..

I'm looking for a few very special parts for a restoration project I am working on. The bike is a rare one; a 1920 Harley Davidson WF Sport Twin. This is the model with the opposed engine. It was produced from 1919 to 1923. I am looking for the small oil cups that are on the Upper Rocker Bracket. (Its a suspension rocker on the front forks)... From the parts manual this is Factory number AWKC33Z. The Rocker Bracket Oiler (the parts I need) is Factory number BO902. We need three of these. These oiler are very unusual in that its cap is spring retained within the oiler itself. If any of you guys have any idea were to obtain these things will you please let me know. I would be happy to post up a few pictures and measurements if that will help.

    Take care

    Denis

Sorry Denis I can't help you but I also could use some of the oilers, so maybe some one can help us. I looked for some a while back from tractor supply and vintage car vendors and couldn't find any small enough.

Not sure what your oiler looks like but you might try these guys. I have bought things from them over the years and they seem like a good outfit.

Do they look like this? These don't have a spring inside.

Possibly you have one already if you only need three? Can you post a picture?

Those are grease cups and it looks like they are already on the fork rockers. I think that he's talking about the tiny little oilers that are all over the pivot points on a Harley JD. About 1/4" in diameter and 5/8" long with a spring loaded manhole like cap. I'll try to post a pic later. I was going to do a run of several thousand of these, but somebody told me that competition dist was already making them.

Welcome aboard Denis. We're museum members and are just down the road from you guys in Sylacauga. Great project. The greese cup on my 21J generator is similar, although the cap is not spring loaded. You remove the outer cover, fill the cup with greese, and screw the cap down forcing the greese into the timer drive shaft. Good luck!

                  Hi Denis,

                  The bike looks very good.
I am also rebuilding a sportmodel.
At the moment I have placed the engine and I have made several pictures about the rebuilt.
I you are interested please contact me.
I am also looking for one of these oilers but they seem hard to find.
Last year I have bought 5 from Indian but they where slighty larger.

                  Best regards

                  Peter

                    Hey Guys

Thanks for all of your replys. I really appreciate you guys looking into it for me... As to Peter.. HELL YEA I want to share info!! I'm building the engine now, and the chassis is close to being finished. What year is yours? Mine is 1920. Engine number 20W3298. Frame is W20F3280. I haven't looked at your pictures yet...YES!!

Can't wait to see your stuff. I'll bring my camera tomorrow and send you some pics!

As to the oilers, they are the little ones that screw into the front suspension rocker arm. There are three up there. I talked to Bruce Lynsey the other day and he believes the thread pitch is 7-32, which is strange but makes since. None of my standard screws will go very far into the hole. In regards to aftermarket... negative. I don't think anyone is making them. But then again I didn't think anyone in the world was restoring another Sport Twin either!

                    Peter, here is my info:

I'm piecing together two of them. Need a few bits still and have a few Sport bits to trade.
DEFINITELY prefer to trade my extra Sport bits for the Sport bits I need.
