Letter Stampings on Frames

I have stripped my 1942 UL down to it's bare essentials and discovered letters stamped onto it in two locations. Has anyone seen these on other frames? Anyone have knowledge of what the reason for the letter and what they mean? H is stamped on the dash mount. L is stamped on the casting for the brake pedal bracket. I didn't notice them the first time I restored this bike.
