  • Blackened Brass

    Hey!

Anybody out there know how to replicate the "blackened brass" finish on parts for WWII Linkert carburetors? Does parkerizing solution do it or is it some other etching acid that is used. Or is it some kind of paint? Any and all information is welcome. Thanks in advance.

    www.brownells.com

Brass Blackening is made by, I think, Birchwood Casey among other manufacturers.

You can also check with Dixie Gunworks in Tennessee. They sell brass black.

    Hope this helps,

    Cheers, Sirhr.

Thank you so much!! I always tend to ignore the obvious, but I have an account with Brownell's. This cite is truly a blessing for the uninformed(or senile) like me...

        Motorpickle!

Exactly which pieces do you consider "blackened" brass?

Most small hardware was cadmium plated, which darkened by nature.

            Thanks Cotton and Chris.....
I should have asked what finish is needed before asking where to get it. I need the correct finish for the bowl plug, float arm pin and cap, bowl valve seat and top cap and throttle arm. From the pics it looks like the plugs and throttle arm are cadmium. Maybe the correct question is "were there any blackened brass parts on WLA carbs?" Sorry for the confusion...but it comes naturally.......

              Motorpickle!

I suspect that any 'blackened' brass was a result of time and storage.

On to other finishes, even cad-plated brass parts could have a range of finish, as shown by these pieces found in cosmoline.
