  • Need VL frame dimensions

My project frame has a little bend in the rear triangle area. Question I have is what are the dimensions between the axle plates? Relative to centerline, or neck. Are these frames symmetrical? Or is there accommodation for the driveline at all. I do not have a straight rear wheel and axle to use, at this point. Can you help.

Yikes, this is not work I do myself. Many VL frames have been pranged, but they can usually be corrected cold in a press. The broom handle method through the rear axle and another down the headstock helps check for squareness, and when buying them at a meet I try to get the frame to stand vertically, which takes a wedge underneath, then eyeball along the front down tube. But you're always taking a chance. There are a couple of original VL frame tables in the US, originally priced the same as the retail price of a complete bike, but they are useless without the operating instructions and the set of special spacers. A customer recently bought these on eBay, and we're thinking of laser cutting the table at the shop I use with the BIG laser. But I have enough vanity projects sucking in dollars that I don't need more, unless there are two or three hard core guys out there who want to share costs. Please let me know. Best regards.
