brake cable

ok heres a dumb question how do you get a nos brake cable out of the cosmoline wrap? hot water, deisel fuel? i don,t want to screw up the cloth cover and thought i would ask before doing something stupid. thanks

I use gasoline and it hasn't hurt the cloth yet but I am told hot water will do the trick as well. Paps
