Do the 1936 horn brackets fit over the ride control brackets?

  • #2
Yes they do, and you remove the thick washer, if you have one, to make up the space so the mounting nuts 0136 fit in shipshape Harley fashion. Don't forget those mounting bolts are chrome or nickel plated as a one-year feature, the horn mounting plates fit on the outside of the one-year chromed mounting brackets using round head screws, the outer mounting plates 4862-29 are chromed as a one-year feature, and 1936 is the first year for the bar and shield horn face. Did you guess I was judging a 36VLH at Davenport last weekend? Best regards.

      I disagree Steve.
The horn brackets were standard on the VL and mounted first to the fork. The ride control was an accessory, and I've always seen the ride control brackets mounted over the top of the horn brackets. To double check, I went to the garage and found my NOS ride control, and NOS horn brackets, and sure enough, the horn brackets fit inside the ride control brackets. I also looked at the pictures I took years ago of the Factory 36VLH at York, and again the ride control brackets are mounted over the top of the horn brackets, using the same mounting bolt.

Dear Earl, of course you're right, I'm sorry. I thought the question was do they fit over the lugs on the fork. Ouch! Maybe I can edit my earlier posting to avoid eating too much humble pie....
