  • chain lubricating bushing

'28 Harley B Single. Would it be sacrilege to seal this bushing so no oil flows out the crankcase onto the primary chain? i'd rather keep the chain lubricated with it's own lubricant, but also don't want to destroy the originality of it. Tough call. I understand that some of the 74's have this bushing also. Thoughts?

Yes the 1930-36 VL Big Twin also has this bushing, but I don't see any signicant quantity of oil coming out of it. The dominant chain oiler route on the VL is through the crankcase breather pipe onto the primary chain (and rear chain, and rear wheel). Original is always good, so if your bushing is in OK condition I'd leave it alone. If it's not usable I'm not aware of any repro parts, so a modern oil seal would be acceptable to me.
