  • headbolt washers

I have two types of headbolt washers for aluminum heads. Don't know which would be the right ones for '48 UL. thanks-Bob

Pretty sure it's the one in the first picture. Those are the only types that I've seen in the top end sets for my 45" models and I think they are the same for all flatheads.

I know the beveled type are the later type. They are a Harley-Davidson OEM part[NOS]. I just don't know exactly what year and if they were used in '48 on the U UL models. thanks-Bob

Actually, it's the other way around, beveled early/flat top late. Both carry the same part number, 15-39 (16822-39).

The real problem is determining the date of change. I have a factory photo of a 1941 with head off and beveled washers. The washers that came off of a 1943 NOS motor were beveled. The washers on my 1951 & 1952 WLAs (originals) are flat.

Unless you can verify otherwide with an original 1947 or 1948 Aluminum head equipped UL, I'd go with the flat top washers.
