  • Question on valves/seats

i'm rebuilding a '28 Single and wanted to determine if the valve seats were serviceable or not. The exhaust valve rests on its seat about a 1/16th of an inch above the seat face and the intake is about half that (see pics). Both valves are oversized. I still have to lap the valves which may sink them in a bit further. So my question is should the valves be flush with the face of the cylinder or should they protrude as they are now, and if so how much should they protrude.

    Many thanks!

I'd say you are fine. Now if the valves sat below the surface of the cylinder, you'd have some issues.

it looks fine to me too----lapping them in won't lower them at all. at least it would be very hard to measure how much.

        valve guides

Were you able to come up with valve guides or were you able to save the originals? Later Mike
