Modern battery for my 33 VL

Anybody got an part number or description/dimensions for a modern 6 volt battery for 1933 VLE? I really don't want to wait to mailorder one and don't need a "stock" looking one. Just want to take my new rebuild bike out for a ride and need a battery!

The local "Batterys and More" guy freaked out when I called about it this morning, but he did say that if I had a part number, like a Yuasa number, he could help me right out.

6v battery

hello---i got one from an electrical supply house. it was intended for the emergency lights over the exit doors in public buildings. just tell them you need 6 volt. they usually last a couple of years----stillman

Rat at Harbor Vintage has them and they run about $65. The Yuasa # is B-36-A. Interstate also makes one. I have 3 VL's and that is what I run. I even leave them in the box as they fit the battery box better that way. Rat also sells post extensions so the post come outside the batery box rather than running the wires into the box and risking chafing the wire and shorting it out.

I gave you an incorrect number in my last post. The correct # is B38-6A. I noticed it this mornig when I had the battery cover off charging up one of my VL's for a bike night ride tonight. Interstate uses the same number. Sorry for the mistake!

6V batt

I agree with indianut, I can fit two of the 6v batts. from Home Depot in my stock 45 batt. box. You must use a couple of shims, but you can have a spare or one for a friend in need. They really do last a long time. I've had mine for 2 plus years and, I have put more than 3,000 miles on the same batt.

I'm using those generic B-38 6A batteries and getting a couple of years out of them. I no longer buy the Indian-made repro batteries because of poor quality experience.

Home Depot Battery

Do you have a part number for the Home Depot battery, and what are the amps? I would like to try one in my Pan if it will fit.

The Home Depot battery has got me curious. I'll have to make a trip to one to check them out. Anybody have a recommendation on how many amp hours a battery should have to get you down the road and still make it home??? I've got the re-pop six-volt in mine and I don't think I'm going to be happy with it.

For myself, I can honestly say that twelve volt is the way to go for more visibility at night. I put it in my servicar from the get go back in the 80's. It's possible to make the battery box fit a standard battery for a dresser also, it requires some work but is virtually undetectable if done well.
