  • I-beam springer front end question

I have a 1939 WLD project I'm building, not too familiar with the I-beam front ends. What is the difference between this and a VL front end (other than the neck)? Are they the same length? I have a tubular ('40-up) front end, I know someone who's willing to swap for a VL front end, and was wondering if I could make this work?

    Thanks,
    Mike

VL and 45 I beam front ends are quite different. on a VL the fender mounts to the front leg and moves with the wheel. 45 front end mount to the rear leg and is stationary. the rockers are different, the front legs different, as well as the stem you mentioned. I suppose you could make anything work, but why? The correct front ends are out there, one will show up. They were used for a long time, '30 to '39, and were not subjected to the horrors of the '60s custom craze.

      Robbie,

Thanks for clearing things up, I didn't realize there were so many differences between the two. I'll search around til I find the correct front end, it'll show up sooner or later...
