image_52737.jpg I cannot even imagine what Rogers thoughts on this would be. He owned the bike for 45 years. The bike was an original except for speedometer, front fender, seat and all the updated chrome and an absolute dream to ride.

And he is laughing all the way to the bank, he obviously knows that knuckle fever is unrelenting world wide which I suppose is driving this cannibalism. I had a couple of big flatheads and even 35 years ago after selling I suspect the 39 I restored probably became a knuckle. A shame Harley did not stamp frame numbers on different models. img141.jpg

The value of collectable things follows no linear graph; and the pursuit of collectible things knows no bounds. Collecting is (by-far) the most interesting, unusual, absurd, and (dare I say) perverse (?) thing about us, as human beings.. . . Which, I say that with myself in mind. I love this ancient motorcycle thing we share and I fully recognize how weird, and screwy we are but I also take great pleasure in having friends (like all of you) who know what I mean. However, I do hate to see someone take advantage of our pursuit of preservation. History is ripe with examples of milestone human accomplishments that have been destroyed by stupidity, arrogance, and self-greed.

Mach IV has no loyalty to anything, they just parted out a nice 47 Knuckle from Mecum auction recently. I am not ready to buy into the line that it will help restore and keep other bikes on the road.

I agree; the 'bike' was already on the road before it was ravished. I sell parts at swap meets because I feel an obligation to put orphaned parts back into circulation, and of course, I make a few bucks. That is the circle of this hobby, and of life.
