    VLD oil flow concerns

While riding my VD this weekend she developed a bit of a clack that was concerning. No lack of power, ran fine otherwise, however at idle she'd clack a bit. I drained the oil out and added 3 1/2 pumps of fresh oil. This eliminated the noise for the most part, but it would creep back at idle at times. Is this normal or do I need to dig further to the source of the noise?

Drain your crankcase. Put in 3.5 pumps, drain crankcase and see how many ounces comes out. calculate. Figure out how many ounces per pump you are getting, it varies greatly. I prime with 5 ounces, which on my VL is 4.5 pumps. I was priming with 2.5 pumps and galled a piston. You will get varying opinions on how many ounces to use. The oil in the crankcase on my VL does not reach the edge of the flywheels until I put 4.5 ounces in cases. Good luck with it.
