Building 1929 DL motor with later longer 1941 and up rods and cylinders. 1929 rods would correctly assemble with female rod in front and 1941 and up rods would correctly assemble with female rod in rear. What is the reason for the reversing of the rod positions in early and late motors and which way should they be assembled this combination of motor parts, Thanks.

The rods were turned around after better oil rings became the norm and piston oiling wasn't as big an issue as it was earlier. In your '29 it likely wouldn't make any difference which way they were installed. Which piston and ring type are you using?Robbie Knight Amca #2736

I'm using modern aluminum Eastern 45" pistons with one piece oil control ring on rear and oil control ring left out on front cylinder. Stock baffles and 0.004" piston to cylinder clearance. This the same configuration I am successfully running on my 1931 VL.
