  • ULH piston position

    Good morning
I am ready to install these 1940 ULH cylinders. I was examining the pistons and see a support gusset. I've attached a picture. The gusset in question is on the bottom side of the picture above the wrist pin hole. Does this extra support go toward the sprocket side or gear case side of the engine? I would lean toward the valve side of the engine for heat possibly but am not sure.
    Thanks

Wait for more answers, but on pistons I’ve used that extra tab at 6 o’clock position always goes in pinion side.

      Pete,

Harley Davidson added that tab on the piston pin boss as an indicator for installation. It was supposed to be installed on the camshaft (Pinion shaft) side of the engine. It was used for offset piston pins and VR's on OHV models.
Some of the imported pistons aren't always accurate in the offset.

      Hope this helps,
      Duke Kleman
