  • ULH head bolt torque value

Does anyone know the torque value of a 1940 ULH head bolt 7/16'' coarse thread. I seem to like 40 foot pounds. I read a chart that says 37 foot pounds but that is for a nut. The insert here is about 3/4'' long so a little tighter should be OK I think
    Thanks

Dear Pete, I don't recall Harley specifying a torque value. On the VLs with the same 7/16 x 16 tpi head bolt thread I use 60-65 pounds feet on the iron heads and 50 on the aluminum. Run a tap down the cylinder threads first, as sometimes carbon and debris can cause the head bolts to bottom out without sealing.
