New WL owner looking for How To Restore Your Harley-Davidson by Bruce Palmer

    Hello to all,
I recently purchased my first flathead and was wondering if anyone had an idea where I could pick up a copy of Bruce Palmers book. My 47 WL could likely use some of the info it contains.

    Thanks!

They're out of print but there's a waiting list on the DP publishing
      web site.

Type in Bruce Palmer How to Restore your Harley Davidson on your pocket brain and it should tell you where to find them and probably a phone number. They are not cheap but do have some helpful information within them. I have the original book along with the 2nd and 3rd editions. I would suggest picking up the 3rd edition because it pretty much has all of the information from the previous 2 books, just updated as new information was learned or revealed. You will enjoy your Flathead. No speed demons but very much fun to ride, I have a 42 WLA in Army dress and a 46 WL in civilian dress both very much fun to ride. Mine get run as much as possible.

Will the first edition help for a '47 WL? ....I've got one never opened (well maybe I looked one or two things up?) and if it would be good for BrettN or someone else then I should move it along to someone that will benefit from it. I never got that HD I was hoping to get!

            FYI
In the AMCA Virtual Library there is Dealers Catalog of Spare Parts that includes
            1946-1952 WL

Welcome Brett! I've also got a 47WL. And a lot of factory literature related to the 45. Feel free to reach out if you have questions on your bike.

It is currently out of print while Bruce is doing corrections and upgraded information before the next printing.

Thanks everyone! Picking up a ton of great info from everyone on the site and have found a few of the old manuals to print that have been a big help too.

It’s currently on the rear stand with no clutch, pushed it home and found the previous owner had forgotten to put some parts in when they assembled it. Oops! But no real damage done. Parts on order, then back on the road.

You can order a new "Blemished" copy from Bruce. The next printing will be a few months away.
