The '40 WLD engine was marketed as a High-Speed Special. It has cylinders that are a casting similar to a WR/WLDR casting in that it has more fin area and even has the cutouts for big rods although it does not contain them. Lower end is stock 45, cams are stock 45, oil pumps are stock 45, Cylinders are large fin with stock valve sizes and DO NOT have inclined valves. Ports are mid size and manifold is similar to UL series. Heads are high compression (6 to 1) aluminum. Carb is M51. Nice looking with the big fins and runs better than a sock 45 with the bigger ports. The high-speed refers to the cooling capacity, not greater power. Hope this helps. Robbie
