  • Need a measurement of Flathead steering damper shaft

So I am putting together a steering damper for a flathead from parts on hand and it appears I only have a shaft from a big twin. I would like to cut down this shaft but need exact length from end to end of the shaft. It makes a difference as the spring has to fit just right for the tension on the adjuster knob to be in range. Thanks

What year are you dealing with? All Big twin from '36 to '48(and '49 with Springer), and 45 from '40-'57 are the same length.

So I'm off on the description and likely on my own. After further review this appears to be a pea shooter, baby springer '28 or '29 ?

Those stems are the same length as a later DL/RL I-Beam fork. However, they didn't have steering dampers on them. The first steering damper was a '30 up accessory item.
