  • Harley fork stem nut question

Just removed steering damper from spring fork on my 1931 Harley VL. Looking for the part or stem nut which screws into that open threaded center hole at top center of fork under handlebars. Can anyone give me a part number or if there is another model stem nut that fits? Thanks.

Buster, Attached is a photo of the steering damper details from the 1929-1935 parts catalog. Hope this helps.

Thanks, but I am removing the damper from the stem. What screws back into top of stem when not using steering damper?

There is nothing made to go in there. They were not designed to be used without the damper so you will have to fabricate something.

Part number is 2781-30 and not the same as similar parts on other Harley dampers. I used to make them but sold the remaining parts to Tom at Replicant Metals, so check with him or Dave/Rat at Harbor Vintage.
