Does anybody know if it is possible to identify the yr. of 45 solo tanks by the shifter gate bolt holes size. Mine are 5/16x24. Can't tell the difference in dash base recess with my eyes. Trans is prior to 47 and want to get right gate for tanks then if need be change the trans drum. I've been told the gates are not interchangable.

If 45 gas tanks are like Big Twin tanks, then the 47 and later have a relieved area where the gate bolts on. The earlier tanks are smooth in the gate area.

Many thanks. Mine just have the holes and no relieved area for the gate. Think I'll get the gate and see if things mount up thats cheaper than a new drum. Of course if it's pre 47 it means my 47 dash is wrong etc.etc. Isn't this fun.Comment
