  • WLDR carb

    Hi,

I’m trying to make my WLDR a little more original so I’m looking for a set of 3 bar iron heads and I was also wondering what the correct carb would have been for a 1938 WLDR.

    Thanks
    David

      I don't know what's "correct", Dave,...

All the MRs have later three-line script,..

Except the MR-2 barrel carb. That would be cool.

What did you find on it?

        Thanks Cotten,

When I got it, it wasn’t running but it had an M51 on it.

It seems to be one of those questions that is hard to accurately answer

          Dave,
The linkertcarbs.com web site has a M41 listed for your year.

Thanks for the link. It says WLD but not WLDR, I guess they probably used them on both.

            I see it says M25s for 1940WLDR

From '40 up the carb is 4 bolt, hence the M25. The earlier WLDRs with mid sized ports used 1-1/4 inch carbs with the M41 being one that would fit and had SV internal bits. Since there were over the counter WLDRs sold the privateer racers (mostly to the dealers sponsoring them) they likely used the standard carb as used on other 45s and BTs. The Factory sponsored "cheater" WLDRs ( full ball bearing, magneto equipped, hot cams, etc, etc...) likely used something entirely different, at least internally.

If you have a three bolt manifold, the M41 sounds like a good place to start.
Being a racing bike, the carby could have been modified in many ways, depending on what the owner thought would make more power.
                  Good luck.
