  • 1949 WL Brake Light Switch - The Puller Wire

The brake light switch is activated by pushing forward on the brake pedal; obviously.
The brake pedal pulls forward a stiff Puller Wire.
That wire is hooked to a small return spring.
The small return spring pulls the rod of the switch forward; activating the brake light bulb.
    (Now on to my question)

I have fabricated the stiff puller wire. But it sucks.
    Does anyone:
    A) Have a real one for sale?
    B) Have the measurements of what that puller wire should be?
    C) Have the thickness of what that puller wire was made from?

    Thank you!!!

Not sure about a NOS/OEM puller wire, but I have found aftermarket they need to be modified in length. I have an NOS switch with aftermarket spring and puller wire, I bent the puller wire as needed after fiddling with the entire contraption to make it work as needed. I seems to me that the puller wire was made longer to offer adjustment via bending it, but that is only my opinion. Probably in the 40's when the bike was new and all parts came from HD, it all worked the first time. Good luck.

Matt, here are some measurements I think might help you. The 72020-39 Pull wire is 4 5/8 inches overall length and has a 7/16 inch hook on the pedal end and a 1/4 inch hook on the spring end. The wire diameter is .055 inches. The 72017-39 spring is 2 1/16 inches overall length, coil diameter is 5/16 inches and has a 1/4 inch hook on the pull wire end and a 5/16 inch hook on the switch end. The pull wire is Parkerized and the spring is painted black.
