  • Carburator on 1934 Harley Davidson VLD

What carburetor would probably have been on a 1934 Harley VLD. A friend has one and wanted to know. Jerry

Yup, M21 on a '34 VL. They had early problems with flat spots and backfires so dealers were advised in Shop Dope 106 of 11 Dec 33 to run a number 55 drill through the larger idle hole under the 1251-33 idle passage plug. Later M21s were then identified with a punched dot to the right of the model number when this had been done. I've seen a few of these. The M2 and M21 are the Linkerts with No 10 x 24 tpi screws for the 1931-34 air intake. Later Linkerts take No 12 x 24 screws.
