  • speedo drive gear lubrication?

Just getting ready to put the rear wheel on my 1942 WLA. It looks like there should be some kind of lubricant used on the drive gear. The drive unit gear is some type of plastic it appears, aftermarket.
Is there supposed to be grease on the speedometer drive gear?
    Thanks again.

Can't hurt I guess. Although the drive gear mounted with the slot given on the housing only lets it mesh half way. Meaning it won't last long. I had a second slot put in which was discussed on the caimag and it will engage fully and last.

A little lube is always good, DCoul!

A modern disc brake grease should not fly off onto the friction surfaces.

The most important thing to remember is to remove the drive unit before installing the wheel, and insert it afterward.

      I learned the hard way..

Thanks guys. I was a little afraid the grease might fling off Cotton. I assemble the drive unit but come to think of it, I can see why it might damage that plastic gear on the install. Thanks for the tip Cotton.
