1949 Harley "45" Speedometer Drive Unit

Upon undoing the speedometer cable from the rear wheel unit....
How does one remove the speedometer drive unit?
I saw the 1 small screw that allow the retainer clip to drop away.
But then what?

I suspect the drive unit is not 100% good; as the cable spins intermittently.

After the clip is removed it pulls straight out. That is all.

PS - Anyone know if its common for these reproduction drive unit gears are prone to fail? Or if I need to also be concerned with the gear the drive unit meshes up to?

They were all somewhat a problem, original or replacement.

I have replaced these a few times on my 45 and still can't get the speedo to accurately show my speed.

Sorry for the delay as I'm spending time on the Panhead side since I acquired a new toy.
Anyway, don't think my speedo is original but not sure if it's a repop either. My needle moves around quite a bit too.
