  • 4859-35 / 4860-35 Horn Mounts

I am looking for some help with dimensions for the ’35 VL horn mounts (4859-35 / 4860-35). I want to fabricate my horn mounts. If anyone has a pair and can trace the mounts, mark the dimensions, scan and email (wideglide38@yahoo.com) – I would greatly appreciate the help.
    Thanks in advance,
    William

You want someone to remove their horn mounts, trace them, mark dimensions, scan trace, email to you?
    Not asking much are you.

My bad - I should have qualified the request by asking if anyone had a loose set. btw: The ebay listing you posted isn't the correct part anyway. That kit is p/n 4861-31.

        He's a Panhead guy. Doesn't know any better. :-)
I seem to remember someone is already repoping those mounts.

Tom @ Replicant Metals has horn mounts p/n 4859-30 & 4860-30 for 1930 VL horns and 4859-36A & 4860-36A Horn Brackets for 1936 74”/80” VLs. I did not see any repops for 4859-35 & 4860-35. Will have to check with him and ask…….

Thanks Rich. I saw them in Rat's online catalog (last updated in '14). Harbor Vintage has (1) 4860-35 listed on ebay @ $124.50/buy it now. More than I'd like to pay......and my reason for wanting to fab a set. If I were building a points bike, then I might think differently. Thanks again

Is the photo you posted "correct"? If so, mine are wrong. Not that I care, it's a rider-never to be judged.

                  Rich,
I assumed so. The photo I showed is a cropped portion from a factory photo posted on this forum for 35VLD1000. I've attached the original photo showing the whole bike. I've been using this as a general reference for my build/rider. FYI - Search ebay for item # 231895565962 for the Harbor Vintage listing of p/n 4860-35.

horn bracket.JPGThis is what I have, not sure if it's correct for '35 or not and can't tell by the tiny photos in my '26-'39 parts book. I bought the bike, horn and brackets separately but from the same guy 16 years ago, bike is holding up better than the memory. The brackets in your photo look like they'd be a LOT easier to fabricate than these!

I definitely like the look of your mounts and thought of running them. Plus your mounts appear much more sturdy (probably engineering evolution by the MoCo) than the set I want to fab. The older parts books (with no exploded views) sure make it hard to IDing the correct part especially when you have no part in hand to compare. I found the link below with your style mounts (noted with a -36A p/n) at Tom's website.

I had to go out and look-those look right, mine have an additional piece/cover that comes off the mounting bolt.

Is the additional piece/cover you mention, the lower mount for the ride control assembly?

RE-looking at the itty-bitty parts book . . . Your numbers (4859-35 / 4860-35) are correct for 1935 only, mine appear to be 4860-36a-and without the a for 1936 only.

Can't see the "extra part" marked X, even with the magnifier! It's not part of the ride control, tho.

That's funny; but, true. Would be interested hearing if you discover what this part is or p/n.
