Harley-Davidson did not pinstripe the primary cover in 1933. The first promotional photo you posted shows what looks like a stipe, but that is a reflection on the radius. The cover in the second photo is a valuable piece to someone with an original paint bike. You should have no trouble finding an original cover that needs work, or you could buy a very good reproduction from Replicant Metals http://www.replicantmetals.com/slide...mplete%203.htm

I did blow that picture up, and I think you are right; that is a stripe on the primary cover. However, production models did not have a stripe, and I believe that picture is of a pre, or early production model that was used for the August of 1932 issue of the Enthusiast magazine. That implies that those pictures were taken in June, or July of 1932.

Makinavaja, I had a 1933VL and I did as much research as I was able in the 1980s. It was hard to find good information in those days, and original literature was about all there was. I was fortunate to get a very complete bike from Puckett's Harley-Davidson in Orlando, Florida. They had been a dealer since 1936, and they had a good supply of NOS VL motor parts. Regardless, it was difficult to find parts, and finishes were based on what I could see in old photos, and from other AMCA enthusiasts. I would like to see what you're working on if you can post some photos.

I think so, started the project when I found a good matching belly numbers crankcases here in Spain, the rest of the pieces I found them all over the world more than 10 countries, always researching good parts and original, you are right there is not much information but not do anything not sure that is correct for this year, is a VLE model with very low numbers, is one of the most difficult projects but one of the most interesting I've done, almost is finished just need rear drive corbin and the chain cover and assemble

I'm guessing the chainguard is 1930 or 1931 when Harley still put the outer stripe on. The 1930 chainguards are one-year-only as they are fabricated in two pieces with a welded on deep cover over the front to clear the early cushion drive sprocket. Later items are pressed in one piece, so maybe yours is 1931. Harley tried to standardise on black paint in 1932, then announced chrome inspection covers (rather than painted) for the 1934 season. As Eric says, original paint items are hard to find, so put on a replica cover before you alter this one.
