scavenger pump gear removal

I'm busy disassembling my 45 WLA motor. There's rust in some of the parts and I'm "de-rusting". I took off the scavenger pump and I can't get the pump gear off. It looks like it has a small keyway. Can I just use a puller to get the gear off? I can almost grab the key with forceps but not quite. I got the split key off but not the gear.

If the split keys are off, the gear is a slip fit over a key as stock. Soak it and it should come straight off.
