Most 3 speed gears are not reproduced.
This guys say he has 35286-39 main cluster http://www.rustyscustom.com.au/harle...ld%20stock.htm
Vtwin has 35703-39 counter cluster 17-1520 888-316-1994
These gears are not compatible with the pre 39 3 speeds so you need something (other gears?) I don't know enough to tell you.
The easiest solution is to go to a four speed tranny as andrews makes very nice gear sets.
If you really want a three speed used gear sets show up on ebay.Last edited by 1950Panhead; 12-26-2015, 02:33 PM.

Thanks for the response...Problem is that '39 and later countershaft clusters have splines on the low gear side that extend too far down the cluster....As a result, the spot on the cluster where the 1st gear bushing runs is not really a surface for running the bushing because it's interrupted by the longer splines.. All the 3-speed counter shaft clusters from '39 to '76 or so used a sliding gear, and the shift pattern is 1-N-2-3....The pre-39 three speeds use a shifter clutch, and 1st gear doesn't slide, but becomes engaged with the shifter clutch (dog), just like a 4 speed. The pattern for this is N-1-2-3.

I've got a few 3 speed bits, some are nos and some are used.
I'm not sure if they are any use to you but they are all for sale.

Thanks for responding, Jerry. Since I've posted this, I believe I have found the correct countershaft cluster, so I'm now down to finding the mainshaft cluster. Just for clarification, the mainshaft cluster has 15 teeth on one end and 16 on the other, and it has a counter bore in the 16 tooth end that is about 1/4" deep. The real identifying feature is the overall length. The cluster I'm looking for is 2-1/2" long. All the other clusters that Harley made for 3-speed trannies are 2-1/4" long....Again any help would be greatly appreciated....Omar

Yes I have built a number of these transmissions and know what you are looking for. Jerry

I realize this is an old thread but the need is the same.
Looking for the 35703-39 Countershaft Cluster Gear.
V-Twin lists it as 17-1520 but it is currently backordered.
Did not see it available via Eastern either.
Is anyone else manufacturing this gear?Last edited by sswaney; 10-04-2023, 08:50 AM.
