  • 1935 VLD engine shimming.

Hello. I need some input on engine shimming. upon initial engine removal there were no shims present. Replacing the rebuilt motor there is a slight movement on the motor mounts. I was told to bolt the rear engine tight and then shim the front. Upon doing this I have a 0.008 in. space on the right side of the mount only. Should this be shimmed or is it to small a space and just tighten it down.

My opinion is to get some .008 shim stock and make a shim. You can sandwich the shim stock between clamped 1/4" steel plates to drill the hole.

You need one of these. It's made by 'Shop Aid' and it is one of the best tools I have ever owned. It's great for gaskets, and shim stock and I have used it more than I would ever have thought. I think there are import versions, but buy the original American made example.
