The fork lock plunger in the VLD was completely rusted in place, and complete replacement of the lock and plunger was the only answer. I've posted a few picks to show the fun that was involved.
Removing the lock and tumbler was the 1st issue. Even with the locating pin removed, the cylinder wasn't going anywhere. Slow and steady grinding by hand. Success was finally achieved with the lock, then I drilled and tapped a bolt into the plunger and tried to extract it with a slide hammer. No luck with that arrangement and ended up drilling/grinding the entire plunger out. I've got cutting tools that a Dentist would lust after, so managed to remove it without touching the walls of the hole. No photos of that, as it's too dark that far up into the frame.
