I can't seem to get the tank rod to shut the gas off totally. Is anyone aware of a petcock that's available, which could be installed without removing the tank rod?

I placed a brass shutoff petcock from the plumbing supply store on the bottom of the tank and attached the fuel line to it.It has been like that since '75 and I dont have to worry about gas pouring into the garage if the rod valve doesn't seal.
    Good luck

I think I'll give it a try, thanks for the response.

There is a special tool to align the upper and lower bits of that valve IIRC .
