I am restoring a 1940 WLD 45 taillight housing. The "bar" that the lens retaining springs hook over is missing and the holes were welded over. Can any one give me a dimensional description of the bar and the location and size of the bar mounting holes and what fastens the bar in place? Thank you.

Hi Chris,
Thank you for responding so quickly. I do have a "HOW TO RESTORE YOUR HARLEY - DAVIDSON"...1994 version. Sorry, I did not know it as the Plamer book.
Any how, in my book, on page 409, he does identify the 1939 - 1941 Streamlined (Boat Tail) taillight in detail but, and understandably so, he does not go into the necessary detailed information needed to reproduce the missing bar that the lens retaining springs hook on. My 1940 WLD taillight housing is missing the bar and the bar mounting holes were welded over. I have seen a rather fuzzy picture of the bar/spring/lens arrangement. From that I could assume the bar is about 1/8" diameter with groves for the springs and is maybe press fitted into the housing and also it's approximate location, but I do not know these things for sure. I have heard this bar was not originally welded in place and thus were easily lost. Does the newer version show this information?
Thank you for any and all help you can share with me on this.
