VL oil tank question

The left side tank on my project VL has possibly been apart in the past. It has a metal mesh type screen soldered in the bottom of the oil tank over the oil outlet hole providing oil the motor. Should there be a screen here or has someone added this in the past. Also, Thanks!!

Yes,they have a screen.

Harley advised breaking out the screens as they used to become blocked with ice frozen out of water in the oil and gas. Depends how cold your winters are, but they do not appear essential.
