Can VL cylinders be sleeved and have a reliable motor, or does it make the cylinder walls too thin? I have a cylinder currently at 70 over and bore needs to be cleaned up. I plan to ride this bike quite a bit, should I search for another cylinder or would it be reasonable to sleeve. I will put mileage on this motor and want it to be reliable. Also, one of my cylinders is a 1930 unit with the one year 7/16 x 20 headbolts (per Steve Slocombe book). Apparently due to past stripped threads in three of the of holes, these three holes have been retapped to 1/2 x 13 and are in good shape. Would it be safe to use a regular high grade 1/2 x 13 bolt in these holes, since this size headbolt is not available. Thanks!!

Dear Buster, +80 and +90 pistons are still options. The cylinders are becoming hard to find and a lot of people must be sleeving these days. I cut off the spigots and make a new one out of the sleeve, otherwise you risk flakes of the thinned cylinder wall falling into the engine. Ask advice from whoever is doing the work, as there are several ways to fix the sleeves. No reason why this can't give a reliable motor. Your headbolts should be OK if cut to the correct length.
