What are the correct cylinder casting numbers for a 39 ulh? Are 120-37 120-371 correct? Does 37 stand for the year? And if not do they have date codes on them? Is there any way to tell without a mic if they were 74ci or 80ci? Thank you!

Also, straight leg frames that had everything and I mean everything cut off back in its chopper day, do they still have value? Thank you!

Dear Dan, those should be the right cylinders for the 1937-41 ULH models. Yes 37 looks like the year of introduction of this cylinder. ULH cylinders should also have relieving around the valves. The ULH cylinders take the 3 7/16" nominal pistons used earlier on the VL, while the 74 inch models take 3 5/16" nominal pistons. Elsewhere on this topic you will find both 74 and 80 models used the same casting number cylinders in 1937, while the thinner wall 120-38 cylinder ran 1938-48 for the 74s. In summary, the 1937-41 ULH used the 120-37 and 120-371 cylinders with 13 fins, relieving around the valves, and 3.422" standard bore.

Dan Original 13 fin ULH cylinders are relieved between the cylinder wall and the valve seat while 13 fin UL cylinders are not. Other than that and their bore size they are the same cylinder.

Any frame no matter how butchered up has a valve. Most any complete chopped OEM frame is worth at least $500 and maybe more.
