I'm breaking down my VL springer for painting and wanted to remove the spring support rods (currently stuck/fixed in place). Are the two spring support rods pressed or screwed into the front fork? I wanted to ask before applying a hammer!
    Thanks

The spring rods are held in with taper-lock created by the bottom nuts you have removed. Time has rusted the rods in place. If you plan on reusing the rods a hammer will damage the threads. I soak them from the bottom with penetrating oil and a little heat from a propane torch several heat-cool cycles, then with shop press and nuts placed back on threads with 1/16 to 1/8 gap they usually pop out from bottom with pressure and a little heat.
