    VL trans mainshaft runout

Is the correct side to side runout for a VL trans mainshaft 0.000-0.005". Thanks!!

Dear Buster, is that the end float? There are no original Harley specifications for the VL but the mainshaft end float is about that much on the later gearbox. I screw the ball bearing holder in until the mainshaft locks up, then unscrew it about a third of a turn and check again. This usually gives a free running mainshaft with little or no measurable end float.
