  • VL Pistons

My VL motor has good jugs but one is +20 and the other is +60. Do they need to be the same or does it matter as long as I use corect sized pistons and rings ( one +20 and one +60)?

It will be fine as is. As long as both seal well there isn't an issue with different sizes. The compression ratio changes very slightly but it is so low in the first place it doesn't affect things. H-D was known to mismatch them occasionally. My own UL has had mismatched sizes for 30 years...

I'd agree, but many restorers like equal bore sizes, and engine rebuilders don't like to split pairs of new pistons. I'd worry more about balance than compression ratio, but the new pistons seem much the same weight in different sizes. Those VL cylinders are getting hard to find, and I don't like taking out more metal than is needed to clean up the bores.
