  • HELP IDENTIFY PARTS (1936 80"Flathead?)

Attaching some pictures of parts I believe are from a 1936 80" Flathead; hand lever and bracket. Both are a little crusty but very viable, good threads in the bracket top where the cable comes through and in the bracket post to attach it to the lever, all threads would need cleaning and tapping. Both parts have studs broken off in them; the lever has a rusted retaining stud for the cable still in the hole, and the top part of the bracket has the two studs broken off and still in the holes where the bottom part of the bracket attaches; there is no bottom part to the bracket. The lever has flecks of chrome on it. Looking to identify is this is from a 1936 80" Flathead, and wondering if anyone is interested in the parts?

If that's a Harley Front Brake Lever, it was used from 1928 when the bikes got front brakes and was unchanged until the 1940 aluminum handle replaced it, so it would be right your '36. So, you are referring to a 36 VLH? What's the rest of the story?

Yes, back in the early 70's me and a friend bought a complete 1936 VLH in Auburn NY for a few hundred dollars. Looking through his garage recently to dig out all the parts from a 1972 FLH that I was restoring, we located these parts. Quite sure they came off the VL, but there was the possibility we picked them up along the line somewhere else, don't think so though. Should add that I cleaned up the bracket piece and on the bottom you can make out the part # 1280 over 28, which I understand to be correct. The tragedy is we sold off the VL in the mid 70's do to $ woes. Thanks for the help Gerry.
