    Tank ID

    Hi folks,
I was hoping someone could ID this tank for me - I believe it's a '37 tank but not sure. The right side tank does not have this ribbing. This is on my UH that's in a '48 frame. What year tanks would fit this frame? My left side tank has a lot of damage/repair and I would eventually like to get one that would accept the stock petcock (the one with the rod that goes through the tank) and a hand-shifter. Right now it has aftermarket (cheapo!) petcocks and a hand clutch. The left side petcock uses an adapter - what is the thread for the bung on the bottom of the tank?
    thanks, any help appreciated,
    Steve

Tocino, I posted the same question here a couple of years ago and there was a lot of good info in that post. I just spent the last half an hour trying to find it with no luck. Maybe some one else here can find it. Bob L

Ask and ye shall receive! Thanks Bob.

So I'm going to guess that the tanks I have are Panhead tanks, which makes sense seeing it's a '48 frame. From your thread it seems the bolts / tabs from "U" tanks would not line up correctly on a 48 frame.

Anyone know what year tanks I should keep an eye out for that would work with a '48 frame? Really I just need a left-side tank since that has the most damage - I'm sure the right side dents could be repaired. The left holds gas and what not, but eventually I'd like to replace it.

The frames tabs for U, Knuckle and Panhead are the same. That tank with the ribs is a later U tank. Reread thread. Bob L
