Can someone explain a little to me about the '36 VL electrical system...
Also, I am looking for a generator, distributor, magneto, coil, etc. Are there any other models that have a similar system where other HD model components can be used ?? How about JD or UL ??
Lastly, what category does a JD fall under - panhead ??
    Thanks
    Dan

Dear Dan, most of the answers are in my VL restoration book. The VL was the first model to use the spark coil and generator which ran to 1957, so you will find usable parts on later models rather than the JD. There is usually no magneto. The two contact relay ran 1926-38. The VL electrical system is pretty simple and reliable, and the components are long lasting with good spare parts support. Wiring diagram is in the Riders Handbook. The JD model is usually called F-head or pocket valve.
