  • Correct Tires 1932 RL

Hi, I'm working on a 1932 Harley RL and am just wondering if anyone knows what the correct tire size is to keep things as original as possible. According to everything that I can find all I am finding is 4.00 x 18, but that leaves still a few options. Coker Tire is offering a few options all to fit the 18" x 2.15" rim. The overall diameter and cross section options are 26.57" diameter x 4.57" cross section in a Firestone or 25.75" diameter x 3.79" cross section and 27.00" diameter x 4.50" cross section in a diamond pattern. Coker has recommended the Firestone, but suggested to put it out to a forum to see what the pros recommend. Any input on this would be appreciated. I want to keep things as close to what they would have been originally as possible.

Thanks in advance for the help.

4.00-18s were what came on "R" models. All of them. 4.50s were optional on Big Twin "V" models, but they were 19" wheels anyway. If you're looking for authenticity, the Diamond pattern 4.00-18s with 3.79" cross-section would be right. But they'll look puny under the R's fenders, I'll warn you. If you want the bike to "look" substantial, I've always been partial to 4.50 cross-section 18-inch tires.
Here's Chris Haynes' 1933 order blank, closest he has on line to 1932, but I believe the rubber options are the same:

Dear Andy, the 1932 order blank reprinted in 'The Legend Begins' says 18 x 4.00 balloon is the size for R and C models. It also says 'We reserve the right to furnish any standard make of tire'.
