no title only registration?

I am looking to buy a 67 harley sportster. The guy says he has owned it for 25 years and only has a registration for it. He said older bikes did not have titles, only registrations? He is in NY. Plz let me know how I can confirm this before Monday.

hello brent that is correct the last two old bikes that i picked up were both from new york and they had no titles and i had no problem getting a title in pa. joe

i live in ny any motor vehicle 1973 and older does not require a title i have 6 older bikes no title just a reg.
