  • Seat Clevis Pin

I just got the correct Clevis Pin for my 47 WL, but can not figure out how to install that curly retainer? Any help would be appreciated....Scott

    Scott,
The retainer goes over the top of the seat tee bar. The little round hole/loop goes over one tee pin, the wire over the top of the tee and then wrapped under the opposite tee pin. The long end is held upwards, the seat pin inserted and when released the spring pressure holds the wire down into the groove locking the pin in place.

Glad to see someone bring up the subject. I've never trusted the daggone things and reverted to a bolt. Rather be "incorrect" than ride home from the middle of nowhere holding the seat in place with a pucker.

Correctly installed, the spring latches into the groove near the end of the pin and is stone reliable. I've never had a problem with the seat post in that regard in over forty years' riding. That's far longer, BTW, than their designers ever imagined our buckets-of-bolts would be expected to be expected to function "back when," like all of our bikes in this Old Bike obsession/"hobby."

If a picture's worth a thousand words, here's three thousand words, Stubby:

Underside of a '37 UL seat, but your WL is the same. Hope this helps!
