45" Gearbox Side Cover Conversion

Can the 45" Gearbox Side cover (p/n 34821-41, casting # 33-41; see photos) w/ steel blind bushing (in counter shaft location) for electric start be easily converted to kick start (i.e. remove the steel bushing and install a bronze through bushing for the kicker arm)?

It can be done, but I'm not sure if I'd recommend it. The cover for the kicker trannys protrudes approx. 5/8" more on the outside in the area where the bushing would fit, providing more support for the countershaft. I have plenty of the correct covers, I'm sure I could spare one. PM me if your interested.

Thanks for the intell. I've read more in Palmer's and asked a few local friends. The friends say no to the mods and mentioned the kicker boss/protrusion off the cover face as needed support.

What did you intend to do inside the case where it is not machined for the tripper bolts and kicker gear?

A friend is locating parts for a 42 wla build and I wondered if this (his) cover could be converted for kicker use - this was my intent. He has the '41-'63 3-bolt case (old # 2258-41 / new # 34702-41 w/ casting # 121-41) and it was determined the collected parts do not worked together. Does anyone have a photo of the '64 & later electric case from the gear side (since I'm use to OHV scoots & palmer's only discusses up to '63)? I'd like to compare this case to the electrics - just for my knowledge!
