  • VL Saddlebags

Hi all. Does anyone have a photo of a 35 VL or nearabouts with saddlebags. I'm doing long rides and need a bit of storage.

Were there photos in accessory catalogues etc.

Does anyone in the States make good replica bags.

It looks like 11785-X were the period saddlebags for the VL, which are described as the utility saddlebags in the 1941 accessory catalog. These are the ones mounted using the two drawer handle or towel rail style brackets each side. The larger bags mounted with the crescent shaped steel brackets on the rear mudguards are larger but not period correct. All are being reproduced if you hunt around.

Contact Michael at Worsham Castle. I got mine for a 33VL from him. Excellent Quality!

        Thanks Bob,

Could I trouble you to take a photo of the bags and the way in which they attach to the bike.

Love the colour sceme on your tank in your Avatar, it looks great. Do you ride her much.

One question for our discussion down here. Do you run oil rings or not?

        Thanks in advance.

As you can see in the picture there are 2 straps that loop over the luggage rack. There is a bolt that goes thru a grommet in the loop and the inside of the bag.

I ride it on a regular basis. Rode the AMCA Road Run in KY last year and am doing the Fall Road Run in NC this year as well as Denton next month.

              Thanks Bob,

That's just what I needed to see. Your V model is also good on the eye as well. It is a credit to you. Safe riding and thanks again.

With regard to rings, we have had a long going discussion down here in Aus with regard to running an oil ring or not. I would be interested in your observations.

I have not been into my engine since I bought it 5 yrs ago so I really don't know what it has. It runs sooo good I hate to tear into it. One day I guess I will have to, but until then I will just keep riding. I am working on a hack and should have it ready for Denton.

Dear Phil, there's another thread discussing oil rings that should help. If you can't find it, ask your question again.
